Juniors
Unfortunately, the Junior A side’s top of the table clash against Moyross was called off as the Moyross pitch was deemed to be unplayable. Next weekend Newport will be at home to Northside in round 2 of the Lawson Cup. The winners of this game will be at home to Premier side, Regional Utd, in round 3.

The Junior C’s recent run of good results ended on Sunday afternoon after they lost 3-2 away to Cals B with the Rathuard side’s winner coming from a penalty with 5 minutes remaining. David Kennedy & Seán Lynch were the Newport scorers.

U17B recorded their fourth win in seven games with a comfortable 6-1 win at home to Knockainey on Sunday afternoon. The win moves them into a comfortable position in the top half of Div 2. The Newport goals came from Luke Ryan 2, Johnny Ryan 2, Conor McHugo & O.G.

Next weekend’s fixtures. Sunday, January 19. Junior A, Lawson Cup v Northside Legacy, 11am (Derryleigh Park). Junior B, Div 1B, Newport Town AFC v Regional Utd B, 2pm (Derryleigh Park). Junior C, Div 3, Newport Town AFC v Lisnagry, 2pm (Derryleigh Park).

Schoolgirls
The scheduled games for our U15 & U18 sides were called off due to the weather. However, the games for our U11 (non-competitive) and U13 sides went ahead. Unfortunately, the U13s lost 6-0 away to a very good Ballymackey side. The U11 girls braved the elements and put on a great display away to BT Harps in their non-competitive league fixture.

Next Saturday’s fixtures. U14 Girls v Killavilla Utd, 10.30am (Derryleigh Park). U16 Girls v Birdhill, 10am (Dublin Road).

Schoolboys
Our U16 side got the new season off to a great start in Div 1 with an excellent 6-0 at home to a hard-working Parkville side who kept battling to the final whistle. Diarmuid O'Riordan 2, Thomas Hickey, Daniel Toriola & Conor Brett were on the scoresheet with the sixth coming from an OG. This was a very impressive performance from the lads and keeping the clean sheet was the icing on the cake.

Unfortunately the U14s lost 5-0 away to Aisling Annacotty on Saturday morning despite putting in a very solid performance. Hard luck lads.

Next Saturday’s schoolboy fixtures. U13 Div 2, Aisling Annacotty C v Newport Town AFC, 12.30pm (Killonan). U15 Premier, Newport Town AFC A v Mungret Regional A, 11am (Derryleigh Park). U15 Div 2, Newport Town AFC B v Mungret Regional B, 12.30pm (Derryleigh Park).
