Juniors:
The new Junior season kicked off last week with the Junior A, B, C and U17 sides all in action. The A team got their season off to a great start with two wins in their opening league games, scoring 16 goals and coming out on top in an 11 goal thriller. On Wednesday evening, they recorded an emphatic 10-0 win at home to a Hill Celtic side that are currently in transition. Youth player, Daniel Egan, on his A team debut, capped off an impressive display by netting a hat-trick. The other scorers were Brian 'Clemy' O'Sullivan 2, Kev Connolly, Christy O'Connor, Colin Coleman, Kevin Doyle & Andy 'Bubbles' Murphy.

On Sunday afternoon, they played out a nail-biting, roller-coaster of a game away to Fairview B, when coming from 4-1 down after 20 minutes to eventually run out 6-5 winners with Elliott Slattery scoring the winner with 11 minutes remaining. This was one of those crazy games that frustrate managers but keep supporters entertained. Despite going behind early in the game, drawing level at 4-4, then going 4-5 down, the lads showed great character & resilience to grind out the win and make it two from two. The other Newport scorers were Brian O’Sullivan (2), Ben Coleman, Kev Connolly & Davy Ryan.

A youthful B team kept a clean sheet on Saturday evening in an entertaining and hard-fought scoreless draw at home to Aisling C in Derryleigh Park. Newport created lots of chances but were unlucky not to find the back of the net in a game that on another night, they might have won.

Well done to the Junior C team who got their season off to a great start with a gritty 1-0 win at home to Lisnagry B in Div 3A. Youth player, Cillian O'Sullivan, struck the winner in the first half.

The U17s had to battle hard to secure an excellent 3-2 win away from home against a physical Herbertstown side. Adam McEvoy scored two, with Diarmuid O’Riordan also on the scoresheet.

The schoolboy leagues kick off this coming Saturday and fixtures from August 29 through to September 12 have been released and are available on the club website There are 25 games scheduled for our sides in the opening fortnight, so very busy times ahead, while the evening games are being played. Best of luck to all our players and officials.

Schoolgirls:
The schoolgirls, who play in the North Tipperary League get their season underway on September 5. Opening fixtures haven’t been released yet. We will have teams playing in U12, U14, U15, U16 & U18 age grades.

Summer Camp:
What a great week we had on our Summer Camp last week, despite the mixed weather including Storm Ellen, which caused the cancellation of the Thursday session! 4 days, 110 children, 10 coaches, 1 astro-turf pitch, 2 grass pitches, 100’s of goals, 1,000’s of smiles, social distancing and countless hours of fun. All good things must come to an end and we hope that every boy & girl who took part had a great time and made lots of new friends.

The camp doesn’t just happen by accident and there are lots of people to thank. Firstly, the coaches, under the guidance of Head Coach, Eimear O'Brien who made the camp such a special & fun place from the very first minute to the last. Our campers, the boys & girls who were so well behaved, enthusiastic and good humoured all week long. Ye were absolutely brilliant and there are definitely some future super stars amongst you.

The parents who were patient and co-operative all week at drop-off and collection times. The car park stewards who ensured that everything ran smoothly and were always smiling and helpful. The ground staff who made sure that the pitches were prepared ahead of the camp and kept in pristine condition all week long.

Last but definitely not least, special thanks to Richard Egan the club’s camp co-ordinator who left no stone unturned and James Scott, FAI Regional Development Officer for his never-ending enthusiasm & dedication to promote soccer in North Tipperary.

Training / Match Protocols – Covid 19
With nearly all our teams now back training and leagues about to start, this is a timely reminder for all players & parents to familiarise themselves with the club’s protocols for training / games in Derryleigh Park. Protocols are available to read on the club website.

Club App
We’re asking everyone to download the club App as soon as possible. Our App is going to be a vital tool to enable us to carry out contact tracing, co-ordinate training sessions, complete online digital Health Questionnaire forms and also streamline our communication to all our players & parents during the return to football. The App is really easy to download and simple to use and it’s vital that all managers, junior players and parents download our App in time for the return of training and matches.
