Welcome to our first Derryleigh Diary since March 9! We hope that everyone is keeping well during these strange and unprecedented times. It's great to see Derryleigh Park fully open once again and our junior & schoolboy sides back training in preparation for the new season, while all the time adhering to the return-to-play protocols in a safe environment.
Return to Football
Our junior sides are all in pre-season training as the Limerick Junior Leagues will start on August 18 and Newport will have 5 sides competing in the 2020/201 season. Our sides will play in the following divisions; Junior A, Premier A (2nd Div), Junior B - Div 1B (4th Div), Junior C - Div 3A (7th Div), U18 - Div 2 & U17 - Div 2. Best of luck to all our players and management in the new season.
The Limerick Schoolboy Leagues will start on August 29. There’s no word yet on when the North Tipp Schoolgirl League will start.
We’re asking everyone to download the club App as soon as possible. Our App is going to be a vital tool to enable us to carry out contact tracing, co-ordinate training sessions, complete online digital Health Questionnaire forms and also streamline our communication to all our players & parents during the return to football. The App is really easy to download and simple to use and it’s vital that all managers, junior players and parents download our App in time for the return of training and matches. Full details on how to download our app are on the club website.
Our club lotto has resumed and there was no winner of this week’s draw and the jackpot is now €1,350 with the next draw taking place on Saturday, August 1 in the clubhouse. The numbers drawn were 1, 20, 24 & 26. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member at our lotto stand at Ryan’s Centra on Friday evenings & Sunday mornings. They can also be bought online via the club website. Thanks, as always, to everyone who supports the club’s main fund raiser.

NTAFC will be hosting an FAI Summer Soccer School from August 17 to 21, from 10am to 1pm each day. The cost will be €70 per child and family discounts will apply. The cost includes full playing kit, football, backpack and 5 days of quality coaching from FAI accredited coaches. Unfortunately, the online Booking Portal is currently experiencing technical issues. However, we hope to have full details on how to book in the coming weeks. Places will be limited this year due to social distancing.
All in NTAFC would like to wish the very best of luck to our former schoolgirl players, Shauna Pearson, Abbey Lenihan & Eimear Carey who are making the step-up from club soccer to play in the U17 Women's National League this season with Limerick side, Treaty Utd. The girls are fully deserving and well-worthy of this opportunity and it's a great reward for their hard work and dedication to date. They will be sadly missed by the club but their NTAFC team-mates and coaches will be keeping a keen eye on their progress in the years to come. Their step-up to the National League is also a super reflection of the great work done by the club in encouraging and facilitating the incredible growth in the schoolgirl soccer in NTAFC over the past few years. Newport's loss is Treaty Utd's gain and hopefully in time, we might see the girls feature in an Irish jersey in the not too distant future. Good luck girls and don't ever forget your roots.
