Juniors
The A team recorded a massive win to take all three points on offer, when beating league leaders Athlunkard Villa 1-0 away on Sunday morning. It took a late goal from Peter O’Sullivan to break the deadlock. The win means that Newport are now just 1 point behind Athlunkard in Premier A. It’s all very tight at the top as Charleville are joint second with Newport and Murroe are just 1 point further behind. This looks like a division that could go right down to the wire with only two sides guaranteed promotion to the Premier League. After a long run of games since late August, the A team finally have a break next weekend, with no game scheduled.

The B team just can’t seem to get a break at the moment. On Sunday morning, they took a 2-0 goal lead in the second half away to Caherdavin A but were unable to hold on to the advantage and in the end, it was the city side that won on a 3-2 scoreline. Newport definitely deserved something out of the game, especially after goals from Pá Murtagh & Odhran Brett had put them in front. However, this is a very young side and will need to learn quickly that in junior football, you need to be able to close out a game. This was their fifth away game in seven fixtures, so hopefully having home advantage, when they welcome Parkville to Derryleigh Park next Sunday morning, will make the difference.

The C team were away to Cals in Div 3A on Sunday afternoon and played out a 7 goal thriller. Unfortunately, it was Newport who came out on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline. Jordan Ryan (2) & John Ryan were the Newport scorers.

Next Sunday’s scheduled junior fixtures (subject to change).

Junior B, Div 1B, Newport Town AFC v Parkville, 10.30am (Derryleigh Park) Joe Rooney
U18, Div 2, Newport Town AFC v Aisling Annacotty B, 2pm (Derryleigh Park) C Walsh

Schoolboys
Our U15 side had a very impressive 4-1 win away to Caherconlish. This was an excellent performance from the lads and were fully deserving of the victory. The Newport scorers were Conor Molamphy (2), James Moloney & Evan Keogh.

The U13A side maintained their 100% record in Div 1 with an excellent 7-2 win away to Coonagh. Cormac Shanahan (2), Scott Nugent (2), Ollie Roche, Leon O Donoghue & Conor Ryan were on the score-sheet for Newport. This makes it 4 wins from 4 and a great start to the season.

Unfortunately the U13B team lost 7-1 at home to Regional Utd. Jack Kiely scored the consolation goal for Newport.

In non-competitive fixtures, the U9 Greens welcomed Regional Utd to Derryleigh Park and played some very entertaining football on a beautiful sunny morning. Finally, the U11 Reds played Fairview in another very entertaining game. It’s great to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment at these small sided games and the visible improvement of our players, every time they play. Well done to all their coaches for their time & effort.

Next Saturday’s scheduled fixtures (subject to change).
